Krups describes itself on the official Groupe SEB page as "the German expert in coffee and food preparation since 1846". The company was founded by Robert Krups in Wald, now a district of Solingen, Germany: the North American site's "Our History" page states that its earliest products were high-precision scales, and that the move into kitchen appliances came later, with the first Krups coffee grinder in 1956.
Krups is today part of Groupe SEB, the French group that also owns brands such as Tefal, Calor, Rowenta, Moulinex and WMF. The official description positions the brand around coffee and small food-preparation appliances, with a stated focus on precision: "we design robust and precise products that are a pleasure to use".
The North American history page lists several coffee-related product milestones, including the 1991 partnership with Nestlé to launch the first Nespresso machine, the 2006 launch of Nescafé Dolce Gusto machines, and the 2012 EA9010 fully automatic espresso machine.
