Baratza Virtuoso+ vs Eureka Mignon Crono

Technical comparison · All-purpose grinders

In brief

Two home grinders built on different ideas: conical burrs with stepped adjustment on one side, flat burrs with stepless adjustment on the other. The choice comes down to how much control you want over the grind and what you brew.

The differences that matter

  • 40 mm conical burrs vs 50 mm flat burrs → two different grind approaches, neither one better
  • Stepped vs stepless adjustment → stepless allows fine tweaks, stepped is easier to repeat
  • Espresso and French press vs drip filter and French press (manufacturer-declared methods) → changes the coffee you make every day
  • 300 g vs 150 g hopper → a refill every few days or more often

Which one to choose

Choose Virtuoso+ if…

You use it every morning for espresso and now and then for French press, with a 300 g hopper you fill once and forget for several days. Stepped adjustment is easy to repeat: find the setting and go back to it. The trade-off is that there is nothing between two steps, so you cannot fine-tune an espresso grind in small increments.

Choose Mignon Crono if…

Pick it if you alternate between drip filter and French press and want to nudge the grind continuously when you change roast or blend. The flat burrs are 50 mm. The cost is space and convenience: it weighs 5.6 kg against 3.6, and the 150 g hopper needs refilling more often. Espresso is not among the brew methods the manufacturer declares.
