Baratza Virtuoso+ vs Mahlkönig X64 SD

Technical comparison · All-purpose grinders

In brief

Two home grinders of the same level, built for different habits: Virtuoso+ is filled once and grinds on demand from its 300 g hopper, while X64 SD grinds one dose at a time with stepless adjustment. That is what decides the choice, more than the burrs.

The differences that matter

  • 300 g hopper against 30 g → a stock that grinds by itself against one dose at a time
  • Stepped against stepless adjustment → between two steps Virtuoso+ has no middle ground, X64 SD does
  • Espresso and French press against also pour over, drip filter and cold brew (manufacturer-declared) → with Virtuoso+ manual filter is left out

Which one to choose

Choose Virtuoso+ if…

you grind the same coffee every morning for espresso or French press: fill the hopper and press a button, no weighing each dose. The trade-off is stepped adjustment, with nothing between one step and the next, and coffee that sits in the hopper until you finish it. Pour over is not among the declared methods.

Choose X64 SD if…

you change blends or origins often, alternate espresso and filter, and want to fine-tune the grind without steps. The hopper holds 30 g, so every dose is weighed and poured in by hand. It also takes more counter space: 25 cm deep against Virtuoso+'s 15.
