Rancilio started in Parabiago, on the outskirts of Milan. According to the history published by the group, in 1926 Roberto Rancilio set up the first premises of his Officina Meccanica on Via Galeazzi, formally establishing the company in 1930; in 1927 he built La Regina, his first machine for coffee bars. In the 1930s the workshop also made cutting torches, pressure regulators and hydraulic valves alongside its espresso machines. In 1972 the company opened its plant in Villastanza di Parabiago, which now houses both headquarters and production, and where Egro's fully automatic machines have also been built since 2010.
The group today brings together three brands: Rancilio, for traditional espresso machines and professional dosing grinders; Rancilio Specialty, the line of the RS1 introduced in 2018; and Egro, the Swiss maker of fully automatic machines that Rancilio took full control of in 2011. Since 2013 Rancilio Group has been part of Ali Group, an international foodservice equipment group. The company says it sells in more than 115 countries through its Italian headquarters, six branches and a sales and after-sales network.
For the home there is the Home Line: Silvia, which the group introduced in 1997, Silvia Pro X and Stile. The rest of the catalogue is professional: the Classe series (5, 7, 9, 11 and 20) and the Kryo and MD dosing grinders. The site has no freely browsable spare parts catalogue: both the download area and the support portal require a login.
