The AeroPress XL uses the same technology as the Original, in the same three steps: fast immersion, air pressure and micro-filtration through a paper filter. The difference is double the capacity: a 20 oz cup, for 2-4 cups, against the Original's 10 oz (1-2 cups).
To get there, the chamber wasn't simply stretched: it is both wider and taller, keeping roughly the same proportions as the standard-size presses. As a result, the XL uses its own paper filter size, not interchangeable with the Original, Go, Premium or Clear. A 20 oz Tritan™ carafe is included in the box.
It is dishwasher safe, top rack only, like the Original. It suits someone brewing for more people with the same AeroPress gesture, not someone who wants to stay compatible with the filters already in the house.
