How it grows
Caturra x Timor Hybrid 1343. Released by Cenicafé in 2005 as a composite variety: a mixture of lines that differ in their leaf rust resistance genes and in their adaptation. Seven regional varieties derive from it, each for one agro-climatic zone; the seventh, El Tambo, was presented in 2006. Cenicafé seeks durable resistance through genetic diversity, but does not regard it as permanent: it monitors the lines one by one and replaces those that suffer heavy attacks, to keep pace with new races of the fungus.
