Hario Filter-in Coffee Bottle

The Filter-in Coffee Bottle is Hario's cold-brew bottle where the filter fits directly into the neck, instead of a separate carafe with a plunger. The body is heatproof glass; the filter, split into two parts that clip together, mounts on the removable spout that fits into the bottle's neck. Finished capacity is 650 mL, five cups.

The method calls for 55 g of medium-fine ground coffee in the strainer; the spout with the strainer attaches to the bottle's neck (stopper removed) and water is poured slowly up to the roughly 700 mL mark etched on the glass. The stopper goes in, the bottle is gently shaken to wet all the grounds, and it steeps for 8 hours in the fridge; before pouring, another gentle shake helps, then the stopper comes out to pour into a glass.

The glass body handles hot water as well as the dishwasher; the plastic filter, though, needs a soft sponge and no prolonged bleach soak. The brew should stay refrigerated and be drunk within two or three days, since it oxidizes over time. It's a bottle for brewing and steeping in the same vessel, with no separate carafe to wash, in five-cup batches.
