The Chemex Classic Series 6-Cup is the wood-collar, leather-tie version of the funnel-shaped brewer patented in 1941. The body is borosilicate glass, the same material used for laboratory glassware, which the manufacturer states will not impart chemicals or flavors into the coffee. Declared capacity is 30 ounces, with a height of 8 1/2 inches and a diameter of 5 1/8 inches; the item code is CM-6A.
The filter used is the Chemex Bonded filter, a proprietary paper filter the manufacturer lists under codes FP-1, FC-100, FS-100 and FSU-100: it is opened into a cone shape, with the three-layer side facing the spout, and rests directly in the neck of the glass body. There is no separate dripper, so the filter cone itself acts as both the filtering element and its own support.
The manufacturer states it is dishwasher safe, but on one specific condition: the wood collar and leather tie must be removed first, since they are not dishwasher safe themselves. Without those two parts, the glass body can go in the dishwasher; the manufacturer still advises positioning it so it does not bump against other dishes during the cycle.

Pros and cons
In favour
- Borosilicate glass body, the same material used in laboratory glassware, stated not to release chemicals or flavors
- Proprietary Chemex Bonded filter that combines dripper and filter into a single paper element
- Declared capacity of 30 ounces, enough for several cups in a single brew
Worth knowing
- To go in the dishwasher, the wood collar and leather tie must first be removed, as they are not dishwasher safe themselves
- The filter is a proprietary Chemex Bonded format, not interchangeable with generic conical filters from other pour-over brewers
- The manufacturer does not state the number of drain holes in the pour cone source
