JURA is a Swiss maker of automatic coffee machines; the imprint on its official site names the company as JURA Elektroapparate AG, headquartered in Niederbuchsiten. The history the company publishes dates its founding to 1931, when Leo Henzirohs began producing a wide range of electrical household appliances in Niederbuchsiten. For decades JURA was a general appliance manufacturer: in the 1930s it sold and rented out radio sets, in the 1940s it turned out electric hotplates in large numbers, and in 1955 it introduced what it describes as continental Europe's first steam iron, to the point that the name became synonymous with ironing.
The turn towards coffee came in the 1980s: in 1986 JURA launched its first automatic espresso and coffee machine, presented on the same page as Switzerland's first automatic coffee machine. In the 1990s the company moved away from diversification and the domestic market to focus on coffee machines and exports; the first IMPRESSA left its Swiss production partner's plant in 1994, and over the decade the share of sales abroad rose from 20% to 70%. The company's figures page reports, for 2025, group revenue of 624.4 million Swiss francs, 75.1% of it in Europe, 437,474 automatic coffee machines sold and 923 full-time positions, 307 of them in Switzerland.
Today JURA presents itself as a maker of automatic speciality coffee machines for the home and for professional use (its history mentions the WE and X lines for offices), available in around 50 countries. The phrase «freshly ground, not capsuled» recurs throughout the company history, which ties doing without capsules to its sustainability stance. Among the features the history credits to the brand are cappuccino without moving the cup (IMPRESSA Z5), the Pulse Extraction Process (P.E.P.) introduced with the Z6, and the option of controlling the machines from a smartphone or smartwatch through the J.O.E. app; the imprint lists Emanuel Probst as management.
