The S1 Mini Vivaldi II is a compact dual-boiler machine: a small boiler for coffee and a larger one for steam and hot water, so milk can be steamed while the coffee runs. Water comes from an internal three-litre tank, and the one- and two-cup buttons can be programmed by volume: pressed, they always pour the same amount.
When you only want coffee, economy mode switches off heating in the large boiler; steam comes back when you switch it on again, a little in advance. A self-diagnosis system flags faults on the panel, and a safety thermostat protects the machine from overheating. A direct water drain is available as an option.
The portafilter is 53 mm, not the café standard: tampers and baskets have to be chosen for that size. It is for someone who wants a dual boiler that doses the coffee by itself, in a square body about forty centimetres a side; grinding and tamping remain the user's job.
