The Musica is a café machine in miniature, built around a heat exchanger: just over thirty centimetres wide, it is meant for a home as much as an office or a small café. The group is temperature-controlled, and a button starts a short pre-infusion, about three seconds, before extraction. The heat exchanger keeps the brew water at the right temperature while the boiler makes steam, which is dosed with a knob.
Water comes from a 2.3-litre tank that lifts out and can go in the dishwasher; there is also a Direct Connect version, plumbed into the mains. On the front, a gauge shows the pressure.
It asks for café-style care: at the start of the day, or after a pause of more than eight hours, fresh water is run through the circuits; every day the steam wand, basket and portafilter are cleaned, every week the grid and the tank. It is for someone who wants a small professional machine on a narrow counter; anyone making many coffees in a row will be better off with the plumbed version.

Worth knowing
