Data from official source

The Barista Express Impress is the assisted-tamping variant of the Barista Express: instead of manual tamping with a handheld tamper, a lever drives a system the manufacturer describes as delivering "a constant 10kg impression" to the dose, finished with a "7º barista twist" for a more polished puck. The integrated grinder has 25 grind settings and an intelligent dosing feature that, per the manufacturer, "auto corrects, remembering the last dose and tamp outcome" to hit the target dose on the next cycle. The portafilter is the same professional-style 54mm unit.

Heating is the same thermocoil system with PID control as the Barista Express, which the manufacturer states delivers water at exactly 93ºC; extraction follows a low pressure pre-infusion followed by 9 bar from a 15 bar Italian pump. The manual also describes a manual pre-infusion mode, triggered by holding the 1 or 2 cup button for the desired time. A gauge monitors extraction pressure, and the removable water tank holds 2 litres. The steam wand is not automatic: the manual describes milk texturing as a two-phase manual procedure (stretching and heating), identical in technique to the Barista Express.

The quick guide states a power draw of 1560-1850W on a 220-240V, 50-60Hz supply: both figures are ranges, with no single value for the European unit. Stated dimensions differ between European market product pages (one lists 42.2x36.7x31cm, another 33x38x41cm), so none are cited here; weight and boiler material are not disclosed in the documentation reviewed.

Pros and cons

In favour

  • Lever-driven assisted tamping with a constant 10kg impression and a final 7º twist, more repeatable than manual tamping. source
  • Intelligent dosing auto-corrects based on the last tamp outcome, reducing dosing errors. source
  • Thermocoil heating system with PID control and a gauge for extraction pressure.
  • 2-litre water tank, larger than the base Barista Express.

Worth knowing

  • The steam wand is still manual: the manual describes a two-phase hands-on procedure, same as the base Barista Express.
  • Product pages across different European markets list different dimensions from each other: none can be cited with confidence. source
  • Power draw is declared only as a range (1560-1850W, 220-240V, 50-60Hz): there is no single nameplate figure. source
